Mail 'em? MAIL 'EM?!?
You need to get your skinny ass over my way and 1) admire my baby daughter, 2) diagnose my failed garden and 3) gimme those pea packets. I need to plant fall lettuce and peas.

Yell at me,ya'hear?

LOL! Will do, Hal. I've been meaning to get over there all damned summer long, but there have been so many demands on my time that it's been difficult to keep up with them all.

Regarding the failed garden: Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. There's a lot of that going around this year, courtesy of the thrice-damned drought. Given the watering restrictions under which most counties in the metro area have been placed, everyone's having a rough time of things, so I doubt you did anything wrong. I've been gardening since I was a kid, and even I took quite a few losses this year.

When I get out there, I'll bring the peas, inlcuding one bred for both heat and cold tolerance and perhaps a small packet of inoculant bacteria (does wonders to improve yields). Then we can put our heads together and scope out some drought-resistant cultivars for next season.

I'm presently working on an irrigation system for the raised beds, one designed to take water directly to the roots of the plants. I'll let you know how it works out, and if it's succesful, I'll help you put one in, as well.
