Howdy.
It’s my birthday. I’m taking a day off. Nothing to say for the moment.
Received lovely cards and good wishes from many “Listies” and others. The best, by far, came from our own Jocelyne (she of the chanterelles), who wrote:
A massive missive I would write
To celebrate a Georgian delight
Whose witticisms and wise words weave well
Tall tales and truths straight from Green Hell.
The temptation looms to be perverse,
or obscurantist, or even worse,
wax mawkish (1) and seem sycophantic (2)
and bore you with my silly antic.
Instead I'll tell of a gemÜtlich man
(though he'll deny it if he can)
Whose badinage (4) causes us to cachinnate (5)
Even as he contribues incisive debate.
Okay, enough fancy words for now!
I've indulged my logophilia (and how!)
Plain words suffice to say how I feel
The simple also has great appeal.
So Bean my dearest, some great big wishes
for you on your day (natalitious) (6)
I think you're wonderful, a true friend I say!
Slàinte, mo mhùirnìn* and have a grand day.
:) roaring birthday girl
