Alamance Map

Map/table, combining an aerial view of the Alamance Battlefield (Alamance County, North Carolina) with a synopsis of the battle itself.

Fought in 1771, the Battle of Alamance is considered the first engagement of the American Revolution by many Southerners, for all that few Northerners seem to have heard of it. Alamance was the first (and last) pitched battle of the Regulator Rebellion (1768-71), a series of vigilante actions and guerilla attacks against the colonial authorities.

This bit of real estate is of particular significance to me, as my six-times-great-grandfather, Marmaduke Vickery, fought there -- on the Regulator side, of course.

I reckon lack of respect for authority just runs in the family...
