A Six-Pound Tug on the Ol' Pucker-String

A pair of six-pounders, Guilford Courthouse Battlefield, Greensboro, NC.

Not exactly the thing one wants to see when one is a member of O'Hara's Guard, fighting one's way through 1.25 or so miles of terrain exactly like that in the photo. This, however, is exactly what the poor bastards saw on March 15, 1781.

O'Hara's men succeeded in penetrating Greene's second line, and these pieces were captured. As, however, Greene retreated in good order, with losses of only 78 killed and 183 wounded -- as opposed to Cornwallis and O'Hara's nearly 500 casualties -- Cornwallis's victory was pyrrhic, at best.
